Three picutures of  an inappropriate exhaust hose installation: 

Exhaust hose end is short and unprotected from rain and wind, pointing upwards instead downwards, offering a way for the misty wind or rain to enter the device. 

Also, notice the outlet is just underneath the window, high enough to make way for the rain or moisture down to the device which is behind the window.
