ATROPHIED MUSCLES REACH OUT!

 As reported by H.T.

 June 1, 2000

For more than 15-years, I have had an atrophy condition in the major muscles of my left shoulder and arm. The neurology specialists I had seen advised me there was no possibility of either cure or rehabilitation due to nerve damage. The agreed diagnosis was nerve damage from a virus, possibly a type of ALS, (Lou Gehrig's disease), known technically as “monotropic lateral sclerosis”. Tests were done over a five year period by different doctors and they all confirmed this diagnosis.

Over the years, as the major muscles atrophied, the smaller related muscles received less and less exercise, and shrank in mass and strength.  About 18-months ago I began to experience an arthritic-like pain in my left shoulder joint when I stretched the arm or rolled the shoulder. I presume this was due to un-exercised ligaments and tendons.

I began once-a-week treatments with the PAPIMI in mid October of 1999. With the first treatment I noticed the affected muscles relaxed during treatment, much like having a massage. The following day, when I rolled my shoulder, I noticed immediate partial-relief from the pain inside the joint.  Subsequent weekly treatments created the same sense of relaxation and further reduced the sensation of pain in the joint.

After the 6th treatment something truly miraculous happened. I was making dinner in the kitchen, when I reached for something on the counter ... using my left arm. It was a totally unconscious action, and when I realized what I had done, I was stunned. I had not been able to make a movement like that in over 12 years. I cannot consciously repeat the movement, (the muscles do not have the strength), but that one experience has been proof to me that the treatments are improving my condition.

I continue treatments on a weekly basis. Now, after 3 more subsequent treatments, I find myself making small movements and small reaches with my left arm and hand, and the range of motion in my left shoulder is equivalent to that in my right shoulder
